About

Gunter Hofer

Graphic Designer/ Photographer

Hello, I am a graphic designer by profession. I have a passion for creating visually stunning designs that help convey a message or tell a story. In my free time, I am an avid astrophotographer, capturing the beauty and wonder of the night sky through the lens of my camera. I am passionate about the art and science of astrophotography and love sharing my knowledge and experiences with others. Whether it's through my photography or through the design work I do, I am always looking for ways to connect with and inspire people through the beauty of the natural world.

I am passionate about astronomy and have always been fascinated by the vastness and beauty of the universe. I enjoy using my telescope to explore the stars and planets, and to discover new celestial bodies.

I find that patience is essential when it comes to observing the night sky. The movement of the stars and planets is slow, and it can take time to find and focus on a particular object. I also have to wait for clear skies and good viewing conditions, which can be unpredictable.

But despite these challenges, I find that the rewards of stargazing are well worth the effort. There is something magical about looking up at the sky and I feel a sense of awe and wonder every time I discover something new through my telescope.

I also spend time researching and studying the night sky, learning about the different constellations and astronomical phenomena. This gives me a deeper understanding and appreciation of the universe, and I enjoy sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm with others.

My passion for astronomy and my telescope have given me a unique perspective on the world.

Areas of Expertise

MOON

The Moon is the closest celestial object to the Earth. It is the easiest object in the sky to photograph due to its proximity and light. However, to capture its surface details, one needs to have an undertanding of exposure.

NEBULA

The easiest nebula to observe and photograph is the Orion Nebula because of its brighness and size.

It can be easily seen through a pair of binoculars or a small telescope.

SUN and THE SOLAR SYSTEM

Our nearest star. It is both fascinating and dangerous to photograph the start. Special filters and solar viewers MUST be used to photograph the sun safely.

The most spectular event to capture the Sun is the Solar Eclipse. The next closest one to the UK is in 2026 and will be visible from Spain. Once in a lifetime experience!

GALAXIES

Galaxies are huge clusters of hundreds of billions of stars. The easiest galaxy to photograph is our Milky Way.

The furthest one I manage to capture is PGC1647835 and is 1 billion light years away, which means that it takes 1 billion years for the light from that galaxy to reach the Earth.
